a few new things…
hello everyone.
i’ve added a few Features. geek that i am, it’s much easier to add features than to write posts. they are:
– there’s a hit counter on the pages. it will probably be pretty disappointing for a while, feeling like you’ve spent the whole morning writing something and a week later only two people have read it. but knowing something is better than knowing nothing, i think…
– people can subscribe to a particular post, so they get an email telling them when someone has replied. that’s good, cos there’s more chance of a some actual discussion happening around the posts.
– also ralph hunted down the bug that was stopping firefox from showing the top menu. yay!
good posting from alister and sammy and steve!

That’s all wonderful, but how would I have found this post if I didn’t have a link from bloglines?? If I go to the front page and work through the side bar I don’t come across it.
Well done for fixing the blip with firefox that stopped using the links at the top, though.
Will there be a simpler way to find out what’s new other than to go to the dashboard via our profile? I imagine people could find that helpful and might be more inclined to use the site if they can see at a glance what has been added since their last visit.
Otherwise you’re doing a great job, thanks.
Karin
Hmmm, interesting!
You, Karin, shouldn’t have found this post at all.
you can see that the category is “be.boring”, which is the admin category – the menu link doesn’t appear for you, and posts in be.boring don’t appear on the front page. i had overlooked the phenomenal ability of wordpress to inform anyone anywhere of anything that happens whether it’s visible or not.
my dilemma though, is i’m glad you found it…
do you want to be an author? then you will see be.boring, and you can write your own posts if you like. maybe anyone who finds this section should be rewarded with the ability to see it all the time…
the front page shows the most recent posts chronologically, so anyone who arrives at wecan.be will be able to see what’s new. i could install one of the show-posts-since-your-last-visit type plugins… or you could subscribe to the rss feed (which is the same as checking in with blogroll)…
it was ralph who worked out my css bug with the top menu. thank you for pointing it out though!
now, lets see if this followup notification actually works…
and a test by andrew, pretending to be ckp, to make sure i get notified…
Ah! That explains why it was so hard to find this section again – I thought it was be.bored, so that didn’t help. Found it via the dashboard, though. I don’t know about being an author. I’ve blogged a bit about the beatitudes just now (here: http://living-faith-prayer.blogspot.com/ ), but it’s more a matter of me trying to work out how to live them out and not really coming to any real conclusions.
I can manage to keep track of new posts here with the help of bloglines and the dashboard, but I was thinking people with little time might be more encouraged if there were a more immediate way of seeing what is new, but I don’t know how easy that would be to arrange.
I can’t see the hit counter (using firefox, logged in as alister…)
Well, thank you for that invitation. I’ll see what I can do, but it will probably not be for a few days, maybe at least a week.
