Help Flood Victims

Pakistan is in the grip of the most devastating flood in recent history with reports of more heavy rain to come. It’s a situation United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has called the worst natural disaster he has ever seen:

“In the past I have witnessed many natural disasters around the world, but nothing like this”.

It has now become evident that flooding is not confined to Pakistan, but is affecting parts of Northern India where TEAR’s partners have worked among poor communities for many years.

TEAR Australia has launched an appeal to provide assistance to Tearfund UK and our local Pakistani and Indian partners for their emergency relief work.

Our partners’ staff are distributing emergency aid, such as food, shelter and clean water, as well as meeting medical needs. They’re also helping prevent further loss of life by ensuring that communities further down swollen rivers, who have not yet been affected, are out of harm’s way. You can find out more about their response on TEAR’s website.

There is a huge task ahead. Already more than 20 million people have been affected. Many have only the clothes they are wearing; they have lost their loved ones, homes, farms and produce.

As someone who has given to our emergency appeals in the past, your generosity and compassion is needed once again. Your tax-deductible gift will help provide tents, emergency food and water and medical support, as well as contributing to long-term rehabilitation and rebuilding.

You can donate to TEAR Australia’s Pakistan and Northern India Flood Appeal via our secure website, or by calling (toll-free) 1800 244 986.
