be.boring

And someone said “Blessed are the boring, for they shall administer the blogosphere.”

And lo, almost everyone else left.

This is just here so that there is a post in this category. I was looking to see if I could move the comments from the post in be.connected to this one so we could have boring admin discussions here instead of there.

Hi Alister I noticed that this site is set to only let you comment after one comment has been approved. So I just approved you – Your comments didn’t look very dangerous 🙂

Andrew and others is that how you want it to work?
It lives in options > discussions

There are a few other button that can be annoying like “email me whenever : anyone posts a comment” ok when you don’t get many comments but…. what if you do.

Oh and Andrew I just put in the blacklists words and spam words from morepraxis. I recommend Akismet 1.14 as a plugin for spam too.

hey thanks alister and adrian, great! i did deliberately set that as a spam-reduction and visitor-monitoring measure. the last person who had that trouble was steve, but he moderated his own post.

    here’s two ideas i’ve had:
    – work out a way to split the notifications, so each person only gets notified of comments to the sections of the site they are responsible for. how hard do you reckon that is adrian? is there a plugin?
    – making another menu item, which in my head is always called “be.boring” which is only visible to admins. there we can have conversations like this. do youse think that would help us?

I think the be.boring could be helpful.

I think it is only he author of the post that gets the email notifcation so if moderators post for their sections they will get the email. This also means that if users post they get the emails which is a good trick to help people come back. So no need for a plugin.

Why don’t we leave notifications as it is for a couple of months and see if we like how it goes. (I just got annoyed at my inbox filling up with emails of comments I could see on morepraxis anyway. Also, I had some spam attacks that emailed members who informed my they liked their penis as it is 🙂 )

so until we’ve got a proper category to put these things in,

does your ship of fools article still exist on the internet anywhere alister? i’ve found references, but i can’t find it.

I moved the post (be.connected) from that section to this one so that these comments were here. I couldn’t see a way of just moving the comments so I changed the category the post was in, and then changed the title and content of the post.

I moved copied and pasted the content of Andrew’s glorious post into the other post in be.connected.
