The future of a regional CPT Australasia

· There is a growing movement of people in Australia who are wanting to start a regional CPT Australasia and form local peacemaking teams.

· We want to engage with local and regional injustices i.e. impacts of climate change and local indigenous issues in West Papua, East Timor, Solomon Islands, etc.

· We hope that by the middle of 2009 there will be a core of people committed to forming our first regional delegation to West Papua.

· We believe CPT Australasia will also be fundamental in moving the churches to a commitment on peacemaking in the coming years.

Learning more about the conflict in Israel and Palestine
CPT stands with both Palestinians and Israeli peace groups engaged in non-violent action. We believe that we should be informed about the real situation. Below are a few websites that we suggest you look at:

· www.btselem.org Israeli Human Rights Statistical Organisation. We highly recommend you look at their yearly reports on the occupation.

· http://english.pnn.ps/ Local Palestinian news in English.

· www.sabeel.org A liberation theology movement among Palestinian Christians.

· www.breakingthesilence.org.il Veteran Israeli soldiers’ testimonies of the their service in Palestine.

· www.holylandtrust.org Palestinian Nonviolence training organisation.

What can you do about the conflict in Israel and Palestine?

· Consider inviting Erin and Casper to come and share of our time in Israel and Palestine. Help spread the word.

· Consider the groups/workplaces/churches/organisations that you are a part of. Is it possible for you to table a motion calling on the boycott of Israeli products or divestment from Israeli companies. See http://www.bdsmovement.net/ for the global movement on mobilisation against Israeli practices.

· Contact Australians for Palestine (www.australiansforpalestine.com ), one of Australia’s leading Palestinian advocacy groups. They have regular news and events. They also resource groups that wish to host a movie night, or host a speaker or spread information.

· Consider contacting your local MP. At the beginning of this year letters were sent to every national MP about their position on Palestinian suffering. Not one single response was received. There was complete silence from both sides of Parliament about the human rights abuses in Palestine. We need to ask our MP’s “Why?”

· Go to Palestine and see for yourself. Help rebuild a demolished Palestiniain home, learn Arabic and experience the hospitality of some of the warmest people on the planet.

If you share a passion for any of the above then we look forward to hearing from you.
Every one of you is a crucial part of this movement.

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbour and hate your enemy.’
But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
that you may be sons of your Father in heaven.
He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good,
and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.”
Matthew 5:43-45
