‘One of the best books I have ever read.’
I have written lots of nonfiction books, but I know that does not make me a writer, anymore than playing lots of four chord songs on my guitar makes me a guitarist.
Geraldine Brooks is not just a writer, she is a writer’s writer, a great Australian born American Pulitzer Prize winning writer. I wish I had her capacity to describe just how exceptionally well she writes.
In ‘People Of The Book’ Geraldine Brooks writes about the imagined history of an extant Sarajevo Haggadah, with a brilliant literary ability, a beautiful cultural sensibility and a wonderful multi-faith spiritual sensitivity that reflects the luminous quality of the illustrations in the illuminated Jewish text.
It is without doubt one of the best books I have ever read.
