a song in my heart and a rock in my hand
So i’ve been carrying this rock around.
it’s a pretty good one. fits nicely in my fist. a bit sparkly-crystal on one fact. worn and rounded on one side, flat and jagged on the side where i smashed it off the rock it was.
it took me a couple of days to remember to keep it with me, so i missed a few of the reflections that were supposed to go with it. but since then i’ve been carrying it all the time, in my hand where possible. i put it on my desk when i’m working, on the table at cafes, sometimes under my pillow at night. the reflections said things like “When you feel the stone in your pocket today, pray for those who have no food to eat and no place to call their own.” the week of rock-carrying is over, but i’ve decided to keep it with me until easter, and go over those reflections as the days go on.
it’s fun, too. when someone says “what’s that” i say “oh, i’m carrying a rock around for lent”
